Noel, Noel!
December 20, 2010 by Laura
I saw this NOEL sign in the Pottery Barn catalog and loved it! Absolutely loved it. It was huge and metal and so cool…and $149. I’m sorry, say what?! Yeah, right. But then, I saw two great ladies (Frugal with a Flurish and Thrifty Decor Chick) who had made amazing knock-offs for pretty cheap. Now we’re talking.
I knew that I wanted to put this sign above the buffet in our dining room. This spot definitely needed something and I thought this would be perfect!

The N, O, E, and L were purchased at Hobby Lobby. The other girls used Burnt Umber acrylic paint and Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint. I had some Hammered Metal spray paint already on hand, so I used it!

Once I put the letters together and saw that it wasn’t going to be as big as I wanted, I knew I needed to come up with a plan B for how I was going to put the sign together. In our old master bedroom, I had three canvases I painted as a quick art for an empty wall. I took one of them and spray painted it with primer and then sprayed the whole thing candy apple red.

Once the canvas and letters dried, I spaced out the letters on the canvas and started attaching them one-by-one to the canvas with hot glue. This part took about three minutes – I love a fast project!

I LOVE how it turned out! It was exactly what I wanted in this spot – a pop of something different and a little flash of Christmas! I didn’t hang it as I didn’t want to make a nail hole on a wall that doesn’t usually have any art but I like it even more just resting on the buffet.

Here is a very bad quality close-up of the finished sign. It might not be as big as the original Pottery Barn one, but I think the color of the letters turned out really great!

Here is another shot of the finished project! It may be December 20 but at least we can enjoy it for another week. 🙂

Love this! I'm so impressed with all your DIY! I've got a DIY winter wreath that is still sitting on the floor in our apt b/c I haven't made the trek to the store for a door hanger/ribbon! ha!
Thanks Beth!! I saw you guys were going to make that pincone wreath from Ballard – I have the supplies to make it too but ran out of time.
Hey Laura..Merry Christmas. I found your blog by accident. i was looking to do the NOEL project and found yours and another ladies. Apparently Pottery barn had this in hstock but a a huge cost. The other lady hung her Noel letters like yours or POttery Barns directly on the wall instead of gluing to a board. I like both but yours better. Your project allows to easily place from room to room without adding more holes in the wall. Thanks for the creating and posting this projrct for us.I live in the metro of OKC. What town are you in? Are you on facebook?Love your blog..
