A little bug’s 1st birthday party!

March 28, 2011 by Laura

This weekend, we went to our very first 1st birthday party. It was a first for Jackson since he got to eat cake and a first for us since it was our first little kid birthday party. I was exhausted afterwards and can only imagine how tired the parents of the kids felt!

PS – sorry for the blurry pics, I was using my iPhone the whole time.

Jackson’s mama is Jackie and is one of my best friends from college. She went all out to make this little man’s first party amazing and it was incredible! I am still in awe over the details and planning that she did to make this party so cute with its bug theme. Jackson is obviously enjoying his smash cake or else I would have had a picture of that for you. 🙂

Jackie ordered a ‘Happy Birthday Jackson’ banner off of Etsy and split it into two areas of the house. Here is the mantel with Jackson hung across, as well as the cutest little picture holders with pictures of Jackson throughout his first year! The little clips are mini garden pots with flowers that hide the picture clips. Love it!

They catered in Panera (brilliant thinking – no food prep!) and had a little basket to hold the napkins and utensils. Jackie tied a spoon, fork and knife together with a little green ribbon and put it all in this adorable basket from Hobby Lobby. I kept asking Jackie where she got everything – Hobby Lobby and Etsy were her two spots for this party!

Everyone was able to have their own piece of cake with these adorable cupcakes! Each was a chocolate cake with green icing and a different bug on each. So cute!

Scattered throughout the party were little decorations like these sacks of grass with a pinwheel or flower included. Such a great detail!

Jackie found these cups at Hobby Lobby and made dirt cake to put inside each! Have you had dirt cake before? It is chocolate pudding with crumbled oreos and a gummy worm on top. They worked with the theme perfectly! Included with her order on Etsy were these little tags that said “Jackson’s 1st Birthday” on each with a different bug. They worked great with the faux grass on this cake stand.

There was also a little candy station with green pixie sticks, gummy worms, green jelly beans and sour gummy worms. The sour ones were my favorite!! I could have eaten that whole jar by myself but I had to elbow some little kids out of the way first. 🙂

The final detail that I finally noticed right before we left? The customized water bottle labels!! Adorable. The back side showed the ‘nutrition facts’ for the water. Love, hugs and kisses are all 100% part of your daily value! The ‘daily value’ was Jackson’s happy and healthy first life and fun birthday party. Love. Love. Love!

I had to also include this picture that I changed on Instagram (if you have an iPhone, get this free app – it is so fun!). I was trying to hold and play with Jackson after the cake and presents but he wanted nothing to do with me and everything to do with Conner. It was the sweetest and cutest thing to watch them play together.

I told Jackie that now all kid’s parties would be compared to this one and she has set the bar really high! She did such a great job and I’m so proud to say she’s my friend and super creative – hah!
