I love a good craft and I love it even more when the craft is super easy and super cheap! Setting the table is one of my favorites things to do, especially at Christmas. The one thing missing this year was a place card for each person. Here is how I made my DIY Chalkboard Ornaments-turned place cards!
This picture was my inspiration…once again from Pinterest. I’m very addicted to that site and I make no apologies for it – so many cute ideas! This was once sold on an Etsy site but is now sold out. The beaded short white candlestick is adorable!
My version started with a package of six clear, glass ornaments (half-off at Hobby Lobby) and six clear glass candlesticks ($1/each from the Dollar Tree). While the warm weather is a buzz-kill for the Christmas spirit, it is fantastic for more spray painting days!
I wondered how I was going to spray paint the ornaments without having to hold them. This was my solution – thank you, to-go containers! The tops of the ornaments were easy to pop off. I cut six holes in the containers so they were big enough for the top of the ornament but not too big so they wouldn’t sit up on top of the boxes. To paint the ornaments, I used two coats of primer and two coats of chalkboard spray paint. (I had both cans on hand already)
These candlesticks were simple and easy to paint – two coats of primer and two coats of glossy white! Easy and pretty.
Once the paint was dry, it was time to pop back on the silver tops and tie some ribbon it. The ribbon strands are black, silver and white and came on a roll together from Michael’s.
I am not the best at tieing bows so some (like this one) fell pretty flat…
And some (like this one), were pretty perky and stood on up!
I really like this year’s Christmas table. The height from the place card is the perfect punch. Next week, I’ll show you the whole table and hopefully do it in some good, natural light. Sorry the pictures are so dark – I took them after work. Not a fan of driving home in the dark!

What a cute idea, I’m in love with anything chalkboard 🙂
