Archive for the ‘Christmas Lights’ Category

How many of you love Christmas Vacation like I do? My most favorite holiday movie of all time. The quotes are classic and still make me laugh!

Moving on…our Christmas lights are up and I’m officially in the holiday spirit!

We did a single row of clear lights just like last year but added two lighted trees at the front of the house. Maybe next year the roof will be outlined…hint, hint…

These lighted trees in urns were on super clearance at Bed, Bath & Beyond after last Christmas and I love them! They add a nice something, something to our front porch, even among the millions and millions of leaves that continue to fall off the trees.

The house decorating is almost complete. I need to finish our second tree and put away the tubs in the attic and then vacuum up the ‘stuff’ that follows in our Christmas decorations…mostly glitter and needles but it needs to go away and then I will feel like it is the Christmas season! Are you ready? Have you even started?

Yup, you read that right! We have two…count them TWO…trees this year! One is our old standby, the artificial hand-me-down from my parents, and this year we added a real, live tree that I love!! The artificial tree is in the second living room and the real tree is in our dining room, in front of the big picture window, facing the street.

Since the artificial tree is in Conner’s living room, I went with an OSU theme (of course!). When I tell people we have an OSU tree, they roll their eyes but I love the school spirit, even during the holiday season. If I was an OU fan (Lord, help me if I have a child that wants to go to Norman) this school spirit tree would be so easy with all of the red and white!

I purchased several official OSU ornaments from Hobby Lobby (half-priced, of course) and I like my little ones like this Pistol Pete. They were still several dollars a piece so I didn’t get more than three. I have Pete, a ball cap and a ‘foam’ finger. So cute! I wonder if Santa will bring me any more of these? 🙂

I also went to the Dollar Tree and purchased silver ornaments (12 per pack) and red/white candy cane ornaments (6 per pack). I used orange spray paint I already had on the candy canes and love them!! I wish I had more but I can always add next year.

Here she is, shining bright at night! The lights I already had and the orange ribbon wrapping around the tree was half-off at Michael’s. The ribbon tied in a bow as the topper is actually OSU ribbon that Hobby Lobby had in their Bedlam section. 🙂 The OSU blanket was one my parents weren’t using so I borrowed it for the tree skirt. I love it and love having a tree in this room!

Here is our second tree…the real one!! It is so fun to have a real tree in our house this year. I love the smell and I am very hopeful that next Christmas, the wall between our dining room and living room won’t be there anymore so we can enjoy this tree in both rooms!

I stuck to the traditional red and white on this tree while also incorporating our special ornaments, like this Oklahoma Centennial Santa. Love it! Also on the tree is my ‘Baby’s First Ornament’ and our ‘First House’ ornament when we purchased our last home. I’m thinking I need to get one for this year too? I would like to remember the first year we celebrated Christmas in each house we have.

This was a very special purchase this year. The tree skirt we used to use was a cheap, clearance skirt from TJ Maxx. It worked great for several years but was destroyed by some over-zealous dogs last season. This skirt is from Pottery Barn and matches our stockings. They were having a free shipping, free monogramming promotion and I also had a 10% off coupon so this was a great price! I love a good monogram on anything so this tree skirt is amazing!

Here she is, all light and bright! I love coming home to see this tree. Since I used the lights we have always had on the OSU tree, we bought new strands for this one. I think next year I’ll add more lights and even more ornaments to really fill and brighten her up! I loved adding on the ribbon this year – I’ve never done that before but I think will continue to do so as it gives it a little ‘something, something’ extra.

Thanks for visiting! I hope you enjoyed our two trees, we love them!

I am linking up to Thifty Decor Chick’s Christmas Tree linky party and Hooked on Houses Holiday Tour. I hope you’ll join me and visit them to see everyone else’s fab trees!

I am so excited that for the first time ever, we have Christmas lights on our house! We never hung them at our old house so this was a huge day!! While it might be just a small amount of lights, I felt like Clark Griswald when the switch flipped and the lights all went on. I hope that next year we can add on and line some of the rooftop…we’ll see how my husband feels about that though…

If you would like to see how our house looked when we first moved in this summer, click on this link here. Thank goodness we removed the tree and bushes so you can see our pretty lights!
