Have you started planning your Mother’s Day celebration yet? We are hosting my mom and grandma at our house this year so I have started dreaming out what I would like to happen. The trick is theΒ executionΒ so how this actually turns out is TBD. πŸ™‚

Mother's Day2I would start with a bright and colorful table of hot pink and orange.

Mother's Day1I would use beautiful place settings like these Tiffany bamboo sterling silver utensils.

Mother's Day3I would have plenty of flowers to soften the table and make the room smell lovely.

Mother's Day4No party is complete without a bar so I would have a Bloody Mary bar…

Mother's Day5…and also a mimosa bar! Because, why not?

Mother's Day6I would serve Eggs Benedict (or some version of it)…

Mother's Day8…and also bacon because no breakfast is complete without it!

Yesterday was a pretty bad day. It had very little to do with seeing OSU’s chance of playing in the National Championship go out the window after losing to Iowa State last night. It had everything to do with getting the news in the morning that once again, we lost members of our orange family to a plane crash. (For the story, please click HERE)

I saw this on Pinterest today and it perfectly explains my love of everything orange. (As does this amazing article HERE) Heaven’s orange got a lot brighter Thursday night. Coach Budke, one of the people on the plane, had an amazing orange blazer he wore. It confirms to me that I need to get the orange velvet blazer from J. Crew and help keep his tradition going!

I hope you feel the same way about your school that I feel about mine – I love my alma mater and am so proud to be a member of this very large, extended family. The way everyone has pulled together is incredible and inspiring during this very sad time. Please hug your families and say a prayer for the families of the four people who died yesterday!

You know how I know I’m getting old? My friends are going through things that I thought we were way too young to experience. Death, infertility, divorce…the list goes on and on. It makes me sad and gives me a heavy heart.

The good news is that I also have friends who have amazing things happening – babies, marriage, job promotions…that list goes on and on as well. Unfortunately, the bad news stays with me longer and as someone who wears her heart on her sleeve, is hard for me to handle. I like happy and fun, not sad and solemn.

I’m going to take a five minute break from the blog and probably most social media so I can regroup and just pause for a moment. Life is going faster than I can blink – it still gets me that its mid-October already! I’ll be gone just a week or so…don’t miss me too much. πŸ™‚

Take a pause and break in your lives sometime soon as well – you never know when those precious people in your lives or precious moments that are happening will be gone and just a memory.

xoxo

A Great Lady

Today, we are saying goodbye to Conner’s grandmother or as we called her, Memaw. She lost her battle against lung cancer that took her very quickly and way too soon!

Memaw was a woman on fire! I absolutely loved spending time with her as she always had a joke and a smile. Even at the end, she was sharp as a tack and extremely feisty. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind and no matter who was in the room, everyone listened and followed her orders!

Conner is so much like Memaw, it is both scary and neat at the same time! They have some of the same mannerisms and definitely have the same attitude and outlook on many issues. She was so proud of him for everything he had accomplished both in personal and professional life and I’m glad she got to see him do so well.

Not only did Conner’s family love her, but my family did as well! We all instantly fell in love and really enjoyed being around her and her infectious personality. She loved to dance and I know is dancing away with her husband, Ed, in Heaven right now!

I was so happy she was able to come to the Bahamas for our wedding and be a part of the celebrations! Their flight was delayed for two hours on the runway so Memaw entertained the passengers with her exercises and stretches up and down the aisles – classic Memaw!

Thank you, Charlotte Steen, for being a wonderful example of a true lady and welcoming me into the family with such open arms! You will be greatly missed.

Today, I’m currently coveting a break from Mother Nature.

She has wreaked some serious havoc on the world and right now, I’m over it! Earthquakes, fires, floods and now tornadoes that kill hundreds…I am literally over. it. Yesterday I sat for at least thirty minutes, just thinking about a family here in Oklahoma who lost two of their four children in Tuesday’s tornadoes. The husband was out of town and the pregnant mother did everything she knew to do to protect her children.

It makes my heart so, so sad especially because I know this isn’t the only story about families torn apart and lives lost. God somehow has a plan in all of this but for now, I don’t get it and I’m over Mother Nature and her destruction.

Awkward Family Photos

And now for a little break from the Christmas posts…

I hope you all have seen the Awkward Family Photo e-mails and websites. If not, click here for a good laugh. I promise you won’t regret it! Last week, I received an e-mail that was the pregnancy version of the awkward family photos and wow…just wow…

There is only one thing I can really say about these pictures…O M G! Seriously people, please think before you take pictures like these! The caption from the website for this photo is the best!

At first I thought “Nothing symbolizes maternity better than a watermelon and a gun” and then I thought “Actually, nothing *does* symbolize maternity better than a watermelon and a gun”. Bravo Mad’am.

Check out the hilarity here when you are going crazy with running errands and prepping for family this week!
