Happy #29 to my husband, boo and BFF…also known as Conner! I think I love his birthday more than he does – I always have it planned a month in advance and want to make sure he gets to do everything he wants all day long. We’ve been in Stillwater with my family for Thanksgiving so this morning we’re having brunch with his favorite foods then headed home to watch football and relax before going to dinner at his favorite steak restaurant tonight! I hope he loves his day and feels as special as I think he is! Love you, boo. xoxo

This weekend, we went to our very first 1st birthday party. It was a first for Jackson since he got to eat cake and a first for us since it was our first little kid birthday party. I was exhausted afterwards and can only imagine how tired the parents of the kids felt!

PS – sorry for the blurry pics, I was using my iPhone the whole time.

Jackson’s mama is Jackie and is one of my best friends from college. She went all out to make this little man’s first party amazing and it was incredible! I am still in awe over the details and planning that she did to make this party so cute with its bug theme. Jackson is obviously enjoying his smash cake or else I would have had a picture of that for you. πŸ™‚

Jackie ordered a ‘Happy Birthday Jackson’ banner off of Etsy and split it into two areas of the house. Here is the mantel with Jackson hung across, as well as the cutest little picture holders with pictures of Jackson throughout his first year! The little clips are mini garden pots with flowers that hide the picture clips. Love it!

They catered in Panera (brilliant thinking – no food prep!) and had a little basket to hold the napkins and utensils. Jackie tied a spoon, fork and knife together with a little green ribbon and put it all in this adorable basket from Hobby Lobby. I kept asking Jackie where she got everything – Hobby Lobby and Etsy were her two spots for this party!

Everyone was able to have their own piece of cake with these adorable cupcakes! Each was a chocolate cake with green icing and a different bug on each. So cute!

Scattered throughout the party were little decorations like these sacks of grass with a pinwheel or flower included. Such a great detail!

Jackie found these cups at Hobby Lobby and made dirt cake to put inside each! Have you had dirt cake before? It is chocolate pudding with crumbled oreos and a gummy worm on top. They worked with the theme perfectly! Included with her order on Etsy were these little tags that said “Jackson’s 1st Birthday” on each with a different bug. They worked great with the faux grass on this cake stand.

There was also a little candy station with green pixie sticks, gummy worms, green jelly beans and sour gummy worms. The sour ones were my favorite!! I could have eaten that whole jar by myself but I had to elbow some little kids out of the way first. πŸ™‚

The final detail that I finally noticed right before we left? The customized water bottle labels!! Adorable. The back side showed the ‘nutrition facts’ for the water. Love, hugs and kisses are all 100% part of your daily value! The ‘daily value’ was Jackson’s happy and healthy first life and fun birthday party. Love. Love. Love!

I had to also include this picture that I changed on Instagram (if you have an iPhone, get this free app – it is so fun!). I was trying to hold and play with Jackson after the cake and presents but he wanted nothing to do with me and everything to do with Conner. It was the sweetest and cutest thing to watch them play together.

I told Jackie that now all kid’s parties would be compared to this one and she has set the bar really high! She did such a great job and I’m so proud to say she’s my friend and super creative – hah!

Well, it is time for us to unveil some pictures of our new house! We have been working so hard and are getting projects done, just not always as quickly as we want. Patience, right? πŸ™‚ We have been in our house for about 5 weeks now and we have done some really awesome stuff, but this is the first complete project that I can show you. We can’t show you anything that isn’t complete and perfect – come on!

This was our house the day we closed. The thing we love most about our street is that we’re in a cul-de-sac and the thing we love most about our neighborhood is all of the trees! Gorgeous, gorgeous trees are everywhere. Unfortunately, there was a big, invasive Bradford Pear that just had to go. A perfect project for Conner’s dad! πŸ™‚

This is our house now! So pretty and open – you can actually see the house! The tree and old, ugly shrubs are all history. The shutters and front door got a makeover, as well as the garage. I love it!!!

This was the view on closing day from our front porch. Where did the street go? The tree and big, ugly 80’s bushes were covering it all up. That rail that looks metal? Nope, big massive wooden posts that were cemented into the ground. This was NOTHING for my mom! For my birthday, she ripped these all out and I think gave herself more of a workout than she was hoping for. πŸ™‚

This is our gorgeous after! You can see the street!! Lining the steps up to our house now are three different types of Hosta plants for a total of nine Hostas, three Pomegranate plants and three Encore Azaleas! Happy Birthday to me and great job mom!! I love it and love that you don’t feel so enclosed on our front porch.

This was our garage and ugly, ugly plant thingy (I think it was some cedar thing but I didn’t want to learn the name – get out of my life!) before my mom came in and worked her magic. There were actually three massive stumps to that plant on the right – good thing my in-laws brought my brother-in-law’s truck! Conner switched on the four-wheel drive, our neighbors let us borrow a chain and pop! Out came all three stumps with little effort.

This is the after! We planted a double knock-out rose bush in place and it is doing so great. I love my “Rosa de Risa.” My Godmother has a double knock-out bush and hers is amazing! Conner and I fell in love with the plant at her house and had to have one as well. I hope ours does just as great.

We went to our local garage door store and got the hardware to add to our garage. I love the look of carriage doors so we did a 20 minute makeover to add some character. It was so easy to put all of the pieces on and I think gives the door a little something extra – even for a boring garage door! Love it!

This was our front porch view before. Those hedges…ugh…they give me the heeby-jeebies. Who knows what was lurking in there? Once again, mom worked her magic and they were gone before lunch!

This is our after!! You can see the Encore Azaleas (the new kind that bloom twice a year as opposed to just once) really starting to grow and bloom. Conner’s parents got me these Adirondack chairs for my birthday and I love them! The pillows are outdoor orange from Target (of course on both counts, I know – Target and orange…I like to keep a similar pattern in life) and the yellow ‘end table’ is an old pot that I flipped upside down and spray painted. Voila!

This is our cute front porch now! I love it so much!! Of course, no yard of ours would be complete without Pistol Pete. πŸ™‚ Go Pokes!!

So there is a quick preview to our new house! We are really enjoying it and trying to have some fun while we work our butts off every spare moment. πŸ™‚ HUGE thanks to my mom and Conner’s dad for really getting this outdoor transformation going. We wouldn’t have been able to do this without their help so THANK YOU!!! xoxo

For my mom’s birthday present this year, we made her a replica of a wall hanging she found at Pottery Barn and loved. The inspiration piece was WAY too expensive so we made it ourselves. Personal and more economical. πŸ™‚

We took a piece of plywood, painted it and distressed it (i.e. had a BLAST with an electric sander) then poured on the polyurethane. After we gave it to her last weekend, I took it back! I know what you’re thinking – how rude! Well, I wasn’t satisfied so I took it back to do some more work. Here are the results!

The first is the inspiration piece:

AND…This is our version:

Here is a close-up of part of our version:

Here is another close-up of our version:

And, another close-up of our distressed version:

So, what do you think? Did we do okay? Mom is going to put it out on their new porch so the weather will beat it up even more – perfect! The spot on the wall outside looks great with this on it!
