Archive for the ‘orange’ Category

Last week, I posted my dreams for a great Mother’s Day celebration. I’m pleased with how it all turned out – especially the table! I love this orange and pink inspiration picture and really wanted to make it a reality in our house.

Orange and Pink Tablescape1The table runner was the starting point for me with this table. Its actually a full tablecloth (from the colorful summery tableware section at Target) that I folded and used as a runner. The white tablecloth is one my mom has let me borrowed for several years and is from Williams-Sonoma. The napkins are just a yard of fabric I cut into sixths. I love the Greek key pattern playing off of the lines of the table runner ..and of course I love the orange!

Orange and Pink Tablescape4The chargers are ones I’ve had for years (from Bed, Bath and Beyond) and the china, flatware and goblets with silver rim are all wedding china and glasses. The pink goblets are also from Target (in the same seasonal tableware section as the runner) as well as the multi-colored dipping bowls. I love that they had several colors grouped together so I bought a pink set and an orange/yellow set.

Orange and Pink Tablescape2The flowers are my favorite part. I purchased three sets of colorful roses from our local grocery store that has an awesome floral department (Uptown Grocery for those in the OKC area) and mixed them up to make these arrangements. I am in love with the combination of pink, coral and orange. The vases are from Dollar Tree (the best place for glassware like this!) and I let my mom and grandma each take one arrangement home with them as their Mother’s Day present so now we have one lonely vase – I may need to go get more for myself!

Orange and Pink Tablescape3 I’m so happy with how the tablescape turned out. This will be a fun and vibrant area to look at as the weather continues to get warmer and warmer – come on, summer!

This weekend, I co-hosted a baby shower for one of my high school friends. Inspired by a post from Hostess with the Mostess, we decided on an orange and navy theme. At the time, our friend knew she was having a boy but hadn’t decided on colors for the nursery or any kind of theme so we ran with the navy (for boy) and orange (for OSU) color scheme.

I was put in charge of decorations, so I knew we needed to start with a banner. Since I don’t have a fancy Silhouette or Cricut machine, I had to make it by hand. I’m pleased with how it turned out! I traced circles on the orange/white paper and navy paper using two different sized glass mixing bowls. I strung the circles together by jute twine I already had on hand. This was a pretty cheap and easy project!

Our spread of food! There were some really cute blue and white iced cookies, as well as the blue and orange cake.

The drink station…water, mimosas and a pink lemonade/sprite mix that was delicious!

I framed the shower invitation and used some navy paper to mat it. I used my mason jars as candle holders. The orange and white ribbon was tacked on with hot glue and then the navy ribbon is tied around loosely. There are little candles in the faux snow that burned during the whole shower and worked really well!

We took the mom and dad’s baby photos and framed them, as well as the sonogram of little baby Luke. I love seeing the parents and the future child together!

A close-up shot of the three frames. I had the silver and orange frame on hand. The navy frame is a 5×7 frame from the Dollar Tree that I painted with navy acrylic paint.

Custom sonogram frames can get pretty pricey so I cut out a shape to fit over the actual sonogram picture using more navy cardstock and wrote out baby’s name with a white marker. Once the shower was over, I transferred this to the DT frame so my friend could put it in the nursery. Her mother-in-law is helping her decorate the nursery so she was excited to have this, plus the banner, to put up as decorations.

Here is a close-up of the mason jar candle holders. I am currently obsessed with using mason jars for everything! Later this week I’ll post the jingle bell mason jars I made.

When I am out and about, if I see a dress with one of these two things I will most certainly take that dress home with me! It is a simple no-brainer.

  1. Orange. Can I get a GO POKES?! Not everyone likes orange. Not everyone will wear orange. This Poke-lovin’ gal loves orange and is so happy it has been ‘in style’ for over a year now. I finally have more than just OSU t-shirts that are orange and this makes me so happy!!
  2. Pockets. I can’t believe three years ago, someone FINALLY came up with the idea of putting pockets on dresses. Earth to Fashion Week! Finally men can stop holding the woman’s lip gloss, id, etc. They are functional, cute and simply awesome.

When my mom told me about one of the choices for Today Throws a Wedding, I was ecstatic and so sad! First, I was ecstatic because the dress has pockets! Second, I was sad because I was told my wedding dress couldn’t have pockets. BOOOOO. If only…

Oh well. Apparently the world isn’t ready for pockets on wedding days because this isn’t the dress that was chosen. I think I need to get it for our wedding vow renewals…in 9 years…

Orange You Happy?!!

I have found a new toy – http://www.polyvore.com/!! It is so fun. You make an inspiration board for whatever you want. You can do this for an outfit, a wedding, a party or even your house! They have a ton of categories to choose from and many web sites to look up your items. It is amazing and addicting!!

As most of you know, I love all things orange (GO POKES!!) and J. Crew. I decided to do my first Polyvore board in honor of these two things – all orange items you can find at J. Crew!!

Tonight OSU plays OU in the Big XII Tournament here in OKC. It is snowing outside (blah) and I do not feel good at all (double blah). Hopefully the Pokes pull a win out tonight and help make everything better! Two years ago when both the men’s and women’s tournaments were here, it was 75 and sunny everyday. It was so fun to go hang out on the closed streets even if you didn’t have tickets. I don’t think too many people are partying outside right now! The dogs and I are staying warm inside – hope you are too!!
