I’m sure by now you’ve heard that the 2013 Pantone color of the year is emerald. Described on their website as a lively, radiant and lush green, Pantone shows many options for using this color in your home and wardrobe. I’ve seen it all across Pinterest as well so I wanted to try it out for myself.

Pinterest Image - Emerald TablescapeMy favorite emerald in your home example is this beautiful tablescape from Pinterest that incorporates black, white and gold. I love a decorated table and since it is the first thing you see in our house, I always try to have a set table with fun and fresh elements.

Emerald Tablescape1This is my version that mostly uses what I already had in the house! Since switching out my great-great-uncle’s chairs for gold ones weren’t an option, I brought in a pop of gold with chargers from Bed, Bath and Beyond. The table runner? It’s just two yards of fabric from Hobby Lobby! (I plan on recovering a bench with this fabric once I’m ready to switch over the table to something for summer – yay for double-duty!)

Emerald Tablescape2I always try to start with our wedding china and its holding up quite nicely for being used so much over the past five years. Some people only use their dishes once or twice a year but since its always out at our house, we use it quite often! The flatware is the matching pattern to our china and the green ‘napkins’ are actually a yard of emerald green fabric from Hobby Lobby, cut into six pieces and folded to look like napkins.

Emerald Tablescape3The beautiful green glasses are the only really new thing on this table. I found them on eBay and fell in love with the blown glass. The water glasses are gifts from our wedding and match the china. I would love to have some with a solid band of gold, too!

Emerald Tablescape4Last but not least, beautiful hydrangea. Tables are so much prettier with fresh flowers and I love these big, white blooms! Our local Whole Foods always has great sales on flowers and last week had a really good deal on these. They are one of my favorites!

Future {dream} Home

So I’ve found my future home. It is a complete dream and only exists in three different homes, as seen on Pinterest, but it is my dream!

Future {dream} home3I would drive up this stunning tree lined driveway

Future {dream} home2To this amazing house that looks like this. Love the colors, love the circle drive!

Future {dream} home1And then I would go out back to a stunning pool and patio that looks like this. Man, I can’t wait until we have a pool in our backyard!

Mad For Plaid

Right now, I am mad for plaid! It has been creeping up on me and now with the cooler weather, I am head over heels for this pattern.

Like this plaid button-down from J. Crew. I remember this shirt from several years ago and its back again! I’m convinced plaid is forever.

And this shirtdress from Gap…it would look so cute with leggings and boots!

But mostly, I’m mad for plaid for Christmas. I love this picture I saw on Pinterest! It was taken for HGTV’s Christmas and is so chic with the combination of traditional plaid and modern black/white. I am definitely using this as my inspiration for our 2012 Christmas home!

One of the funniest things about Pinterest is that the longer you stay on, the more you see some of the same images come around and around. This picture is one of those but one that takes my breath away every time I see it.

The cascading flowers are unbelievable and unreal! If I walked into a room with a table like this, I’m not sure I could do much else besides gawk and gush. The white tablecloth, candles and ghost chairs are pretty fabulous as well but those flowers. Man, that is how you do a floral arrangement!

Do You Follow?

Every once in a while, I’m asked if I still blog. And the answer is yes, yes I do. I try to post 2-3 times/week but when you’re in the middle of a big project that you want to blog about or life gets in the way (my real job, volunteer obligations, etc) sometimes I only blog 0-1 times/week.

I love social media though so if its one of those weeks where I’m not here as much, you can follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. So…do you follow? I would love for you to follow me on this blog or any other social media tool that I’m currently using:

This weekend I updated the look of our entryway buffet. (An original picture, plus the original before and after link here.) Depending on the season and my mood, this area never looks the same for long. The start of a new year, plus the fact that one of the knobs on the top drawer broke, made it time for a change in this space.

I got a new lamp from Target a couple months ago and I love the airy, lighter feel it gives. I tried to balance out the tallness of the left by layering a picture and some books on the right. I’m not 100% sold on this look yet but I like it for now – which is all that matters, right? 🙂

I couldn’t remember where I got the original knobs from so I picked up three new knobs from Lowe’s that I thought would look good for the top drawers. The mis-matched pulls actually look pretty good! I think it helps that I covered the original drawer pull holes with the black backplates so it makes sense to have a different knob on top.

The silver frame was purchased at Target and I printed a picture I found on Pinterest (link here) that I really liked. Abstract art is pretty cool when done in similar tones like this. I’m not a huge fan of the crazy, over-the-top abstracts, but this one fits really well with our home color scheme. I love cheap art!

Have you heard that you’re supposed to take off the dust covers on your books? I had too and finally did it…makes such a difference! The top book with the cool link design? Its Nate Burkus’ book. Of course! He is the one that preaches about this no-cover practice so it fits that inside his cover is a really cool piece of art. The only cover still on is the bottom PB one, I had to have a pop of orange!

I’m getting the itch to paint this piece of furniture again…Heaven help me, it hasn’t even been two years since I painted it the last time!

Happy New Year!

Happy 2012!! I hope your new year is starting off fabulously! I was sick for two days and of course now that I feel better – Conner is sick. I guess that means our year can only get better from here!

I found these New Year’s resolutions on Pinterest. Whitney English is from Oklahoma City and owns a fabulous stationery company! (Check her out, here) I think these resolutions are perfect for me this year. I want to do monthly resolutions instead of large, year-long goals that I might not meet. So this month, I resolve to:

**Let things roll off of my back. There is no need to take everything personally and hold a grudge – it only hurts me and not the other person.

**Get back on an exercise routine. Working out makes me feel better and happier, I owe it to myself to make time to do this at least 5 times a week.

**Keep my house cleaner. I used to be very rigorous about keeping a neat and clean home, now I have just gotten lazy. Time to take back our house and make it mine again.

**Cook more. I love to cook but find myself stressed or just plain lazy and not doing this as much anymore. I love cooking for Conner and he loves trying new food!

Here’s a new and even better year! Happy New Year!
